The German translation for “Notice(s) to Airmen” (“Nachricht(en) an Luftfahrer”) is completely uncommon and could be confused with the German legal notices Nachrichten für Luftfahrer (NfL), which contain publications from the federal government, the states, and the German Air Traffic Control (DFS). | |||
NOTAMs contain short-term or urgent orders, procedures, and information that are of (special) interest as supplementary information for the execution of a flight and do not necessarily require a change to the AIP, especially since changes to the AIP are often distributed by post and therefore take time. NOTAM (für Notice to Airmen, auch Notice to Air Missions) are instructions and information about temporary or permanent changes to the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) that are important for orderly, safe, and smooth air traffic.
NOTAMs are distributed via the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN).[1]
